Featured Startup: Green Growth
Today's climate startup is Green Growth. They assist farmers in reducing fertilizer usage by efficiently distributing it across their fields. This is achieved through a user-friendly web app and sensors installed on combine harvesters, which provide accurate and affordable analytics on crop distribution.
Green Growth Fast Facts

Headquarters
Riga, Latvia & Barcelona, Spain
Technology
Green Growth uses a combination of hardware and software to transfer data from the machine to a user-friendly interface. They have developed their own IoT solutions to collect data from both old and new combines. The data is then sent to the cloud and analyzed using Data Science algorithms to create maps and refine the data. The driver can view real-time driving data on an Android app while harvesting. They aim to expand their infrastructure based on the data and applications they have. Harvesting volume is crucial for connecting farm owners, contractors, dealers, and agronomists.

Business Model
Green Growth is profitable, using the b2b SaaS business model, where they sell the sensor and then charge for the software tools used to work with the data. Their final client can be a farmer directly, but mostly they are selling through resellers.
Traction
Built a scalable product using 300K USD pre-seed round from New Nordic Ventures
Have around 500K USD of traction already
2nd year retention clients across the EU and Kazakhstan

Why Now?
The Agriculture industry is facing challenges due to climate change. Fertilizer and seeds are more costly, while grain prices have dropped. This has led to a decrease in profit margins. To save businesses, farmers are adopting precision agriculture. This approach treats the farm as small areas with different needs, allowing for optimized farming practices.
Climate Impact
In the next 5 years, Green Growth wants to assist farmers in reducing their fertilizer use by 30% on at least 3 million hectares of land. Currently, farmers use around 450 million kilograms of nitrogen each year, resulting in approximately 1.3 billion tons of CO2 emissions. By achieving a 30% reduction, we can easily decrease CO2 emissions by 360 million tons.
